02-16-2026 - LAUDEN PITTS HAS PASSED
We regret to inform you that another classmate has passed. The memory I have of Lauden is that of a very positive man with a constant smile on his face. He will be missed.

H. Lauden Pitts, 86, passed peacefully on the morning of December 13, 2025. He was born on December 26, 1938, in Alexander City, Alabama, to Marie and C.E. Pitts.
Lauden was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose life's work helped shape the community he called home. A land developer by trade, he is best known for developing the Sorrento communities throughout Sarasota County - projects that reflected his vision, determination, and long-term commitment to the area.
He is survived by his three children: Ansley Kramer (Michael) of Tallahassee; Hansel L. Pitts Jr. of Venice; and Greg Pitts (Edie Hanson) of Los Angeles, California. He was a proud grandfather to Clara, Max and Macy Kramer, and Brandon Pitts, each of whom brought him great joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Meeker (Morris) and Tina McCollum.
Lauden was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carolyn Koonts Pitts, the loving mother of his children. From the moment he first saw her, she held his heart until her passing in 2013. He was also preceded in death by his brother, C.E. Pitts Jr., and his sister, Angelia Brady.
A visitation will be held at Farley Funeral Home on January 28, 2026, from 12:00 to 2:00pm, followed by a graveside service at Venice Memorial Gardens at 3:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Venice Theatre, an institution he was devoted to as a board member, a patron and a performer.
