SIDNEY LANIER Class of 1957 - Latest News

Tommy Ragsdale passed away on on December 3,2012 in Albany,Ga.His wife Elizabeth and children John,Kim and Barrie were at his bedside.
Tommy was a true friend to many at Lanier where he played basketball with a passion. He went on to play basketball at the University of Georgia before transferring to Huntington College in Montgomery when the Huntington Hawks first entered inter collegiate basketball. He was recently elected a charter member of the Huntington College Athletic Hall of Fame.

In 1968 Tommy and Elizabeth decided to call Albany,Ga home and Tommy became involved in coaching youth basketball, football and baseball teams. He also became involved in Republican politics and was an early leader in the process that eventually turned Georgia into a Red state. In 1970, Tommy was the Republican nominee for the 2nd District Congressional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives. He will be sorely missed by Republicans in the state of Georgia.

Tommy was a great supporter of this website both financially and in content submitted to the site. You will find many submissions from Tommy in the pages under Museum,Looking Back,Look at us Now or We got Together.Tommy did a great job of keeping up with his many lifelong friends on the Lanier website. This site will not be the same without him.

Tommy touched the lives of many people and I dare say that we are all the better for it.
We shall miss you old friend.
Ronnie Rose
