12-08-2012 - TOMMY RAGSDALE DIES AT 75 IN ALBANY,GA
Tommy Ragsdale passed away on on December 3,2012 in Albany,Ga.His wife Elizabeth and children John,Kim and Barrie were at his bedside. Tommy was a true friend to many at Lanier where he played basketball with a passion.He went on to play basketball at the University of Georgia before transferring to Huntington College in Montgomery when the Huntington Hawks first entered inter collegiate basketball.He was recently elected a charter member of the Huntington College Athletic Hall of Fame.
In 1968 Tommy and Elizabeth decided to call Albany,Ga home and Tommy became involved in coaching youth basketball,football and baseball teams.He also became involved in Republican politics and was an early leader in the process that eventually turned Georgia into a Red state.In 1970, Tommy was the Republican nominee for the 2nd District Congressional seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.He will be sorely missed by Republicans in the state of Georgia.
