In 1955 Jonas Salk discovered the polio vaccine. That was such a blessing because our parents were terrified for us in the summer time in swimming pools. I wasn't allowed in them and the city pools closed and some parks. One in 5000 would get what they called infantile paralysis back then. A frightening time!
