Huntingdon College was at first called Women's College in Alabama in 1910. Named after Selina Countess of Huntingdon.

To locate a flying school in Montgomery the Wright brothers were given in 1910 a cotton plantation owned by Frank Kohn free with a hanger. Maxwell Air Force Base is now in the location.
